We regularly host community listening circles, webinars, and workshops and we’d love you to join us.

Introduction to Restorative Practices: Tuesday, August 25 – 6-8 pm in Carrboro

We are all interconnected. Restorative practices are tools for strengthening our relationships and repairing them when rupture occurs. Participants in this workshop will be introduced to restorative theory, including the basics of restorative justice, and experience a restorative circle.

Meaningful Apologies: Wednesday, September 16 – 6-7:30 pm in Carrboro

Apologies can be hard, but they’re important for repairing and maintaining our relationships. In this workshop, participants will learn about what makes apologies meaningful and will have the opportunity to practice crafting their own.

Communication and Conflict Resolution Skills: Thursday, October 15 – 9:30 am-3:30 pm

Strengthen your ability to navigate conflict with clarity and confidence!

In this interactive in-person workshop, participants develop essential communication and problem-solving skills that help prevent unnecessary conflict and address disagreements constructively when they arise. Learn how to listen for underlying needs, articulate your own perspective effectively, and work toward mutually agreeable solutions.

Ideal for anyone seeking practical tools for healthier relationships at work, at home, or in the community.

Connecting Across Divides: Thursday, October 22 – 6-7:30 pm in Carrboro

Connecting Across Divides is a chance to practice the lost art of talking with people we don’t always agree with. Through interactive activities, real-world examples, and a little humor, we’ll explore how curiosity, listening, and genuine connection can help bridge political and personal divides during election season.

Full Spectrum Listening: Tuesday, October 27 – 6-7:30 pm- in Carrboro

Listening is key to keeping our relationships healthy and addressing conflict and harm. This workshop will introduce ways of thinking about listening and give participants practice with different listening exercises.

Introduction to Mediation: Thursday and Friday, November 5 and 6 – 9:30 am – 5 pm

Learn the fundamentals of mediation and build skills you can apply in real-world settings.

This in-person workshop introduces participants to the mediation process and the role of the neutral third party. Through a combination of clear instruction and supervised role-play practice, participants will develop practical tools for facilitating constructive dialogue and supporting others in reaching their own agreements.

Participants receive guided feedback from Will Dudenhausen, DSC’s Director of Training.

Prerequisite: Communication and Conflict Resolution Skills.

Holidaze: Thursday, November 12 – 6- 7:30 pm

Holidaze is a lighthearted and practical workshop for anyone who has ever braced themselves before a holiday gathering. We will explore how to navigate holiday stress, manage difficult conversations, set healthy boundaries, and keep your cool when tensions rise
